Our client approached us with an exciting brief to transform an old curtilage listed barn conversion in the Devonshire countryside. Given the proximity of the former barn conversion to the listed farmhouse a listed building application was required in this instance.

The project included the striking modern glazed extension to replace an old draughty uPVC conservatory to the rear. There was also a small, cedar clad extension to the front as well as extensive renovation works throughout which included; new kitchen and replacement of the existing uPVC windows with anthracite grey aluminium frames throughout, as well as the replacement of the rotting timber fascia, soffit and barge boards with anthracite grey uPVC.

We successfully gained full planning permission and listed building consent and then went on to obtain building regulations approval and providing full working drawings for the project.

The design is centred on opening up the views of the surrounding countryside which the site benefits from and drawing in maximum daylight into what was previously a very dark space. The idyllic views have been framed with floor to ceiling glazing, with vaulted ceilings and the installation of both conservation roof lights and sun tubes throughout.

The completed project has stamped a bold architectural statement in an agricultural setting with no expense spared on construction materials or finishes with the highest standard of workmanship from start to finish.
