Nathaniel is the sole practitioner and face of the business and is involved in EVERY single project and EVERY single stage, ensuring continuity and attention to detail throughout our work, whether it’s a small single storey extension or a multi-million pound new development, we appreciate that every project is just as important as the next for our clients and will give each and every project the attention it deserves. No project is too big or too small.

We have also forged strong working relationships with a multi-disciplinary team of experts throughout the construction industry (from planning consultants & ecologists to building contractors and landscape gardeners) to ensure that we can co-ordinate your project from inception right through to completion.

We are focussed on delivering architectural solutions with sustainability at their core, irrespective of the scale or budget of each individual project. Taking account of environmental factors we aim to conceive smart designs, utilising innovative technologies to ensure that our buildings minimise any harm (and in an ideal case positively contribute) to the local community and wider environment.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Nathaniel is an experienced architect who was able to finalise our designs for a kitchen extension in a way that made sense to the builders, and to the Building Surveyor. It was a pleasure to work with him on this project.

After graduating from the University of Kent in 2012 Nathaniel spent some time in the South East gaining a thorough grounding in the technicalities of the construction industry. First taking up a post as a CAD technician for a steel fabricator, primarily producing working drawings and bending schedules for both cut and bent steel rebar and pre-fabricated units such as ground beams, pile cages, pile caps etc. During his time there Nathaniel was fortunate enough to be involved with the design, manufacture and delivery of the pile cages for the New American Embassy in central London, as well as the reinforced concrete rings for the New Crossrail project in central London.

Nathaniel also spent some time working as a roof truss designer for a national timber engineering company and is fully conversant with roof design and timber engineering.

Since relocating to the South West, Nathaniel has worked for several architectural practices before founding Morris Architectural Design Ltd and has a wealth of experience of all things residential, with a particular knowledge for rural architecture. He has extensive experience with barn conversions, particularly Class Q permitted development rights.

Nathaniel is also a member of the Design Review Panel. The Design Review Panel comprises a group of independent, multi-disciplinary construction professionals working in the field of the built environment.

The Panel provides impartial expert advice to applicants and local authorities on design issues in relation to important new development schemes and proposals for important public spaces, including both significant minor applications, major planning applications and pre-application development proposals.

David (a.k.a dad) started helping out around the office in 2024 and brings a wealth of experience in the construction industry after 35 years on site in various roles. David also brings with him invaluable ecological knowledge after graduating with a 1st class honours degree in Environmental Conservation from Nottingham Trent university in 2016. Dave is able to help out and advise on the ever growing Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements which has been invaluable to some of our clients.

As a family run business we also have three young architect’s apprentices in the making and you may hear them ‘helping out’ in the background from time to time.

Who will manage my architectural project?

Nathaniel Morris personally oversees every project undertaken by Morris Architectural Design. As the practice’s founder and lead designer, he remains involved throughout each stage, providing continuity, clear communication and close attention to detail from the initial consultation through to completion.

What types of projects do you work on?

We work on residential and small commercial projects of all sizes, from home extensions, renovations and loft conversions to barn conversions, new-build homes and larger development schemes. We believe every project deserves the same level of care, regardless of its size or budget.

Are you a local architectural practice?

Yes. Morris Architectural Design is a family-run architectural practice based at Seale Hayne, near Newton Abbot in Devon. We work with homeowners, developers and businesses throughout Devon and the wider South West.

Do you specialise in rural properties and barn conversions?

Yes. We have considerable experience in rural architecture, including barn conversions, countryside properties and projects involving Class Q permitted development rights. We can assess the opportunities and constraints associated with a rural site and help establish the most appropriate planning route.

Can you help with planning permission?

Yes. We can prepare the drawings and supporting information required for a planning application and guide you through the submission process. Where a project requires additional specialist input, we can coordinate with trusted planning consultants and other relevant professionals.

Can you take a project from the initial idea through to construction?

Yes. We can support your project from its earliest stages through planning, technical design, Building Regulations and construction. Our established relationships with consultants, ecologists, engineers, contractors and other specialists allow us to help coordinate the wider project team where required.

Do you provide sustainable architectural design?

Sustainability is considered throughout our design process. We look at the orientation, layout, materials, energy use and environmental impact of each proposal, developing practical solutions that respond to the site, the client’s priorities and the available budget.

What happens during the first consultation?

The first consultation gives us an opportunity to discuss your property, your ideas, the available budget and what you hope to achieve. We will consider the likely planning and technical requirements and explain the recommended next steps before any design work begins.

Do you work with builders and other construction professionals?

Yes. We have developed strong relationships with a network of construction professionals, including planning consultants, ecologists, structural engineers, building contractors and landscape specialists. We can help bring together the right team for the individual needs of your project.
